Where I'd stay in Cappadocia in February
My favorite hotel for an intimate stay. Small boutique cave hotel with 5 rooms, amazing breakfast and views over Göreme and the balloons. A cozy pick for Valentine's Day.
Best for a once-in-a-lifetime stay. A luxury cave hotel in Uçhisar, with views over the valley perfect for Valentine's Day.
Do hot air balloons fly in Cappadocia in February?
Yes, they fly all year, as long as the weather allows. February gives you the most magical setting of the year, with balloons rising over snow-covered valleys, but it's also a month when snow and wind can cancel more mornings.
The cold itself isn't the problem; wind and snowfall are. Book your flight for your first morning and leave two or three spare days, in case you need to try again.
Like in January, winter flights follow the later sunrise, so there's no 3:30 AM alarm like in summer. Pickups are around 6 to 6:30 AM, and as the days get longer toward the end of February, flights start a little earlier. Dress in layers, with gloves and a hat, because the coldest moment is right before sunrise.
I've covered cancellations, snow, what to wear and how to choose a company in my Cappadocia hot air balloon in winter guide.
February is still low season, with some of the lowest balloon prices of the year. Around Chinese New Year, though, flights can sell out, so book ahead if your dates fall then.

Weather and temperature in Cappadocia in February
Cappadocia in February is cold and often snowy. Daytime highs are typically around 5°C (41°F), and nights drop to around −5°C (23°F). But the averages don't tell the whole story: in February, I've seen temperatures drop to −15°C (5°F). Check the forecast in the days before your trip, so the cold doesn't catch you by surprise.
Sunny days still happen, and the midday sun can make a walk feel almost pleasant. Mornings and evenings are a different story, so plan outdoor activities for the middle of the day.
The good news is that the days are getting longer. Daylight grows from about 10.5 hours at the start of the month to more than 11 by the end, which gives you a bit more room to fit in a tour after a balloon flight.

Does it snow in Cappadocia in February?
Yes, and more reliably than in any other month. If a white Cappadocia is at the top of your list, February is the safest bet. You won't have snow every single day, but the chance of seeing the fairy chimneys covered is at its highest.
Snow also changes how the day works. Roads can close for a few hours, paths in the valleys get icy, and balloon flights may be delayed or canceled, so leave some flexibility in your plans.
If you're thinking of renting a car, make sure you have experience driving on snow and ice, because it changes the whole experience. If you do, ask for winter tires when you book your rental car. If you don't, taxis and guided tours are the safer choice.
If you want even more snow, Mount Erciyes, near Kayseri, is in peak ski season in February. It's about an hour from Göreme, and you can go by car or on a guided tour.
Ramadan in Cappadocia in February 2027
In 2027, Ramadan starts on Monday, February 8, and ends on March 8. The holiday that closes it, Ramazan Bayramı (Eid al-Fitr), runs from March 9 to 11. So if you visit after the first week of February, you'll be there during Ramadan.
For visitors, daily life in Göreme and the other tourist villages barely changes. In all my years in Turkey, Ramadan never changed my routine: restaurants, cafés and markets stayed open as usual. It was very different when I visited Dubai and Abu Dhabi during Ramadan, where I struggled to find a place to eat during the day because almost everything was closed.
A few things you might notice:
The drummer before dawn: in many towns, a drummer walks the streets in the early hours to wake people for sahur, the meal before the fast. Light sleepers may hear it.
Iftar at sunset: when the fast breaks, most locals eat at home with their families, and the streets go quiet for a while. Restaurant staff break their fast too, so I've always avoided going out for dinner right at iftar time. I prefer to let the people who have been fasting all day eat first, and I go a little later.
Ramadan pide: bakeries sell a round, soft flatbread only during Ramadan. Try it warm.
The Bayram in early March is a national holiday, and many Turkish families travel, so hotels fill up and prices go up. If your trip runs into March, book early.
I wrote everything about etiquette, opening hours and the holiday dates in my guide to visiting Cappadocia during Ramadan and local holidays.
Chinese New Year in Cappadocia
In 2027, Chinese New Year falls on February 6, and it's the one week when February doesn't feel quiet. Cappadocia is very popular with travelers from China and other parts of East Asia, and the holiday brings a big wave of visitors. China's official holiday is expected to run from around February 5 to 11.
During that week, the dynamic of the month changes. Balloon flights and the best cave hotels can sell out, prices go up, and the viewpoints get busy at sunrise.
If you want February's quiet side, plan your trip for the second half of the month. If your dates fall around Chinese New Year, book your hotel and balloon flight well in advance.
What to wear and pack for Cappadocia in February
Pack for snow and ice. A warm, windproof coat, thermal base layers and waterproof boots with a good grip matter more in February than in any other month, since snow on the ground is common and paths in the valleys can be slippery.
Add gloves, a hat and a scarf, plus sunglasses, because the sun on fresh snow is bright. If you plan to visit a mosque, bring a scarf to cover your hair and clothes that cover your shoulders and knees.
I wrote a broader list of what to pack for the season in the guide to what to wear in Cappadocia in winter.
What to do in Cappadocia in February
February is still quiet for tours, so you rarely need to book far ahead, except for hot air balloon flights during the Chinese New Year week. Check the forecast, then book a few days before. ATV rides, horseback riding and valley hikes are all possible on clear days, but skip them when the paths are icy.
This is also the month to lean into Cappadocia's slower side. A few things I'd make room for:
A hammam: after a cold day outside, an hour of steam and a traditional scrub is the best way to warm up. Book your hammam here.
A long dinner and local wine: with long, cold nights, dinner becomes the main event. I wrote about what to eat in Cappadocia in winter, from hot soups to local wine and my favorite restaurants.
A day at Mount Erciyes: February is peak ski season, and it's about an hour from Göreme. Book your tour to Mount Erciyes.
Valentine's Day in a cave hotel: in Turkey, February 14 is called Sevgililer Günü, the Day of Lovers. Unlike in the US, where it's also a day for friends, classmates and family, here it's all about couples and romance. Restaurants set up special dinners with roses and candles, and many hotels offer romantic packages. A cave room with a fireplace, a terrace over the valley and balloons in the morning make it an easy place to celebrate.
An iftar dinner: during Ramadan, sharing the meal that breaks the fast is a nice way to see local life.
These are the tours I'd recommend for February.

With snow and icy roads more likely than in any other month, I'd stay close to the main sights. Göreme, in the middle of the valleys, and Uçhisar, a short drive away, are the best bases. Staying farther out means longer drives, which can be a real problem when roads close.
February is still low season, so it's a good month to find a deal or upgrade your room, except during the week around Chinese New Year. The same goes for the Bayram in early March, when Turkish families travel and prices go up, so book early if your dates run into it. Cave rooms are a great pick in winter, thanks to their natural insulation, but check that your room has heating.

Cappadocia in February: Is it a good time to visit?
Yes, especially if snow is what you're after. February won't give you warm days or hundreds of balloons in the sky every morning. What it gives you is the best chance of a white Cappadocia, quiet valleys, low prices and cozy cave hotels. The trade-off is flexibility: snow and wind can cancel flights and close roads, so leave spare days.
In 2027, Ramadan adds a different layer to the trip. Tourist life goes on as usual, and if you're curious, iftar evenings and Ramadan bread give you a glimpse of local life most visitors miss.
